Judge moves Stephen McDaniel murder trial to Henry County

MACON, Ga. (WMAZ) -- A Bibb County judge says the trial of accused murderer Stephen McDaniel will be held in Henry County.

Judge Howard Simms issued the order Wednesday afternoon.

His order cited both the amount of media coverage and his opinion that some of that coverage was "inflammatory or inaccurate."

The trial is scheduled to begin April 28.

McDaniel is accused of killing his former Mercer University Law School classmate, Lauren Giddings, in June 2011.

His defense lawyers asked Simms earlier this year to move the trial out of Bibb County or to bring in outside jurors. District Attorney David Cooke agreed.

SImms wrote that a trial should be moved when it's not possible to pick an impartial jury in the county where the crime occurred.
