MCDONOUGH, Ga. -- Former Pittsburgh Steelers all-pro linebacker Greg Lloyd Sr., 53, was arrested by Henry County Police on Friday, July 27, after he allegedly pointed a gun at his wife and threatened her during an argument a week earlier.
Lloyd was charged with terroristic threats, simple assault and pointing a pistol at another in connection with the incident.
Police said officers were sent to the Lloyd's McDonough home after receiving a domestic dispute call on Friday, July 20. When they arrived officers spoke with 46-year-old Stephanie Lloyd and her daughter, who witnessed a part of the incident.
She says that when she was preparing to leave earlier that evening, her husband pulled a pistol and pointed it in her face, saying, "If you f*** up, you're going to catch one."
She says she walked into the garage to get away from him.
A short time later, she says she called her daughter to tell her what had happened. While on the phone with her, she placed a three-way call with Greg to discuss it with him.
Stephanie's daughter muted her end of the three-way conversation and began to record it.
During the conversation, officers said threats were made toward Stephanie. In their police report, they said written statements were provided along with audio copies of the recorded telephone conversation.
She told officers she was concerned about how this would affect her family. She said she is a stay-at-home wife with no means of financial support. She says she is also worried for her safety and what her husband could do to her.
At the time of Stephanie Lloyd's call to police, Greg Lloyd was out of town. Lloyd was picked up by police after he arrived back in McDonough, and he was released three days later, on Monday, July 30.
This isn't Lloyd's first brush with the law on weapons-related charges.
In 2001, Lloyd was accused of sticking a gun in his teenage son's mouth after the teen brought home some bad grades. Two trials in that case ended up with hung juries in 2004. A third trial was not undertaken. In 2002, Lloyd was accused of pointing a gun at his his ex-wife, Rhonda Lloyd. He pleaded no contest to simple battery in that case in 2004.
