A metro Atlanta hospital accused by a local family and their attorney of releasing the wrong body for cremation intends to file suit against them.
Southern Regional Medical Center became a topic of unwanted discussion when the family of Patrica Bradley and their attorney, C.K. Hoffler, made accusations that the body sent by the hospital to a local funeral home was not the right person.
The family further alleged that they didn't find out until the body had already been cremated until they had already held her memorial and received the ashes.
"I said, 'Excuse me....we had a memorial for her on the 29th, we have my mom's ashes, what are you talking about'," Wynn said.
However, the hospital has denied these claims since the beginning and said that they provided documentation to prove they provided the right body at the right time.
"Attorney CK Hoffler has been informed of the verification that the correct remains were provided to the funeral home," the hospital said in a statement released after the story spread. "Southern Regional offered to provide CK Hoffler information and documentation exonerating the hospital but they declined."
Now, the hospital is going a step further accusing Hoffler of defamation and false statements. They appear they are planning to make good on previous statements that they would be filing a lawsuit.
"CK Hoffler’s tactics and lack of engagement in the truth is creating undue and unnecessary concerns to other individuals within our community," the statement read. "Ms. Hoffler is knowingly attempting to damage the reputation of Southern Regional without adequately investigating the facts."
The hospital statement further reiterated that their records clear them of any wrongdoing and that Hoffler was making sensational statements.
"CK Hoffler appears more interested in shock and awe tactics than the truth," the statement read.
