Metro Atlanta housing market: A look at some of the hot zip codes for buyers

Many homes go up for sale in the spring and summer. It may be the right time for buyers to start looking at the market.

ATLANTA — This is the time of year when the housing market in metro Atlanta tends to be hot. Not only are a lot of people looking to buy before the next school year begins, but a lot of homes go up for sale in the spring and summer.

There are several hot zip codes right now in metro Atlanta that are especially affordable.

Jasmine Iverson is one of the prospective buyers surveying the market. She bowed out of buying two years ago when she felt Atlanta’s housing market had gotten too competitive. She feels she’s now in a better position to buy without having to compromise on some of the things that matter the most to her.

“For me now, I’m more established in my career. I’m making more money. It makes more sense for me now,” Iverson said.

She’s considering the East Point area because it fits her budget of $400,000. While it could mean a longer commute to work, she’s also considering the schools in the area and safety in different neighborhoods.

Realtor Hubert Tate said he’s seeing more people who are ready to embrace the market now. He’s pointing them to the 30344 zip code in East Point and is considering it as one of the metro’s hottest and most affordable communities. Its proximity to downtown Atlanta, the airport, and major redevelopment projects in the works puts it in a great spot.

"It is a hidden gem of Fulton County because prices are so low,” Tate said. “This house right here is under $300,000. It is still very affordable… inside the perimeter in Fulton County."

Tate said the same is true for nearby Hapeville, where we found new construction homes going for around $400,000. Tate also highlighted Atlanta’s Upper West Side, also known as West Midtown, as attracting new homeowners because the community is transforming.

"(Zip codes) 30318, 30314 those areas are really moving,” he said. “Primarily because a lot of investors are looking at that area. For instance, the city is putting the Bellwood Quarry there, which will be the city’s largest park, as well as Chattahoochee Works.”

Another hot zip code is 30310. With access to the BeltLine and the popular Lee and White Food Hall, West End in southwest Atlanta has become a go-to for many looking to find a more affordable home and live closer to the city.
