DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A man died after being found in his cell unresponsive at the DeKalb County Jail on Friday night, the DeKalb Sheriff's Office said Tuesday.
According to a release, 33-year-old Michael Breedlove was given emergency medical services on site by jail and health services staff before he was taken to a hospital, "but efforts to revive Mr. Breedlove were unsuccessful and he was pronounced deceased."
There was no cause of death yet released. The sheriff's office said Breedlove's death is under investigation by its Office of Professional Standards.
Breedlove was discovered unresponsive after "officers were alerted to a medical emergency," but there were no details given on the exact nature of the health emergency.
The sheriff's office said Breedlove had been in the jail since July. Court records indicate he entered a guilty plea in August on a 2022 drug case and was to spend several months in confinement on a 12-month sentence that included credit for previous time served.
