ATLANTA — A lockdown was initiated at Midtown High School, Morningside Elementary School and Kindezi Old Fourth Ward in Atlanta and then lifted Wednesday afternoon after a reported threat was deemed a hoax, school district officials said.
The threat was called in to the Atlanta Police Department, an Atlanta Public Schools spokesman said, and the department sent officers to respond and investigate. APS said the reported threat was a hoax.
Lockdowns were initiated there and at other schools in the area, including at least Morningside Elementary. The lockdowns were lifted at all of Midtown High, Morningside Elementary and Kindezi O4W, APS said.
People at Midtown High told 11Alive police were leaving the school. A person inside the school at Midtown High said during the lockdown, movements were restricted while police checked the premises.
11Alive has crews at the scene and is working to obtain more information.
