Shooting at Four Seasons in Midtown: 11Alive crews capture moments rapid gunfire rang out

11Alive crews on the scene reported hearing dozens of shots fired.

ATLANTA — A suspect is in custody after police said he barricaded himself inside the Four Seasons in Midtown and fired dozens of shots from inside. 

11Alive crews on the scene captured the moments the series of shots rang out near Crescent Avenue and 14th Street while police and SWAT officers responded below.

According to 11Alive crews on the scene, police, SWAT and snipers were called out to the scene around 2 p.m. after getting reports of an armed man on the residential side of the Four Seasons. A witness who was inside the hotel told 11Alive that she saw the man wearing a gas mask and holding flags. Twenty minutes later, she reported hearing the man getting more and more agitated and screaming before hearing multiple gunshots.

A shelter-in-place order was initially implemented for residents and guests inside the hotel while officers searched for the gunman, and several roads around the hotel were blocked while the investigation unfolded.

Around 4:45 p.m., the gunman was apprehended, and the shelter-in-place order was lifted. An officer and the suspect were taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries.
