Police investigate homicide after body found near Midtown train tracks

The victim had a gunshot wound to the head that police do not believe was self-inflicted. But many more questions are still unanswered.

ATLANTA -- Atlanta police are investigating after a man's body was found with a gunshot wound to the head are at a Midtown industrial park.

The Fulton County Medical Examiners office has identified the man as 45-year-old Xavier Thicklin.

He was found along a train track and not far from an access road in the 1300 block of Plasters Avenue, a road that houses a handful of industrial businesses and breweries just outside of Buckhead.

Rail workers were the first to find victim as they came to work Monday morning.

Police said they found no identification on the man, described only as a black male at the time.

Police do not believe the incident was a suicide and homicide detectives were on the scene. However, police do not yet know if Thicklin died at the location or ifhe was left at the location after an incident elsewhere.

Clues do suggest that there were several shots fired at the victim and he was hit at least once but authorities won't elaborate on how they came to that conclusion.
