Police: Shooting at Atlantic Station appears to be self-defense

At this time, officers do not anticipate filing charges.

The shooting that happened last week at a popular Midtown shopping center appear to be self-defense, according to police.

On Dec. 13, police were called to the 200th block of 18th Street to a call about a man who had been shot.The mixed-use residential and commercial community is known as Atlantic Station. Video from a viewer showed crime scene tape and investigators inside the garage. 

The person was taken to the hospital where he died.

Investigators said they learned the deceased man had travel to the area for a "criminal transaction."

Atlanta Police said a man contacted them the the morning after the incident, saying he was the shooter.

AT this time, APD said it appears to be a case of self-defense. 

The preliminary investigation indicates the deceased man confronted the shooter with a firearm. At some point during the confrontation, the shooter pulled out a gun and shot the man. 

Investigators said they don't believe the confrontation was random and are looking into why the deceased male confronted the shooter.

At this time, officers do not anticipate filing charges.
