ATLANTA – A daughter is in critical condition after being hit by a MARTA train while saving her mother from the same fate.
Sunday afternoon, police were called to the Midtown MARTA Station after a 58-year-old woman was pushed onto the tracks. MARTA Police said witnesses flagged down an officer who responded in :90 seconds, but it was the woman’s 27-year-old daughter who jumped on the tracks to help her.
That daughter was struck by a train and is in critical condition. The woman's mother has been released from the hospital.
MARTA Police arrested 28-year-old Christopher Brooklin and charged him with aggravated assault and battery in a public transit station.
MARTA Police tell 11Alive Brooklin didn't know his alleged victims before the attack.
Police are now trying to figure out why Brooklin allegedly pushed the woman - something investigators believe at this point was completely random.
However, police are praising the witnesses who helped apprehend the suspect, quickly.
"This was an incident where the public really aided the investigation," said Cpl. Brian Lauda.
