MILTON, Georgia — A man is in custody after police spent hours responding to a "reported incident" at an apartment complex in Milton on Saturday afternoon.
According to police, officers responded to the IMT Deerfield apartment complex. The agency has not yet explained why officers were called and only said it was a reported incident. Multiple agencies worked with Milton Police over a few hours, according to a release.
Police said the situation was resolved peacefully around 4:45 p.m. when negotiators talked the suspect into exiting the building without incident. He was then taken into custody, and there are no known injuries related to this situation.
Milton Police Department had posted on Facebook earlier in the day to ask the public to stay clear of the apartment complex and said there was heavy police presence in the area.
Police said that although law enforcement may remain in the area for some time, people should soon be able to once again go to and from the complex. There is also no longer a need for people to shelter in place.
"The Milton Police would like to thank the North Fulton SWAT unit and Forsyth County Sheriff’s Department – as well as firefighters from Milton, Alpharetta, and Roswell – for their assistance. We’re also grateful to IMT Deerfield residents for their patience, responsiveness, and understanding," police said.
More information about this incident is anticipated to be released in the coming days.
