Milton SWAT situation ends peacefully with man surrendering

No one was hurt during the incident.

MILTON, Georgia — A SWAT situation in Milton has ended peacefully with one person taken into custody Thursday evening.

Milton Police said this all started when 23-year-old Nikolas Alexander Cole got into an argument with another man at a home on Freemanville Road.

"We do know that they knew each other," said Charles Barstow of Milton Police. "We don't know for what period of time they've known each other but obviously there was friendship or acquaintanceship there."

Officers said the man left but when he returned to collect some of his items, Cole allegedly fired several shots.

The victim, unharmed, left the location and called police for help. Officers said his vehicle, however, was stuck by the gunfire.

Police responded to the scene and tried to make contact with Cole, who was in the house, but initially there was no response. Therefore, SWAT was called to the scene. For the public's safety, authorities closed a section of Freemanville Road between Birmingham Road and Dartmouth Drive.

Eventually, police said Cole decided to surrender.

"Our SWAT negotiators were able to establish contact with him and also to convince him to peacefully surrender," Barstow said.

The suspect came out of the house around 9 p.m.

"His condition, obviously he is not hurt and appears to be healthy," he said.

Cole is charged with aggravated assault and criminal damage to property. This investigation is ongoing.
