GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A 7-year-old who Gwinnett County Police said was kidnapped by his mother has been located safely out of state.
Gwinnett County Police said the mom, Michelle Marks, has been taken into custody in Los Angeles, California.
The department said earlier in the day that the child was taken by Marks at a home in the 3500 block of Valley Bluff Lane after coming to visit her son. Police said the mother had previously lost custody of the 7-year-old while they were living in Oklahoma last year due to child neglect. The child's father has legal custody.
In an update Tuesday evening, police said they learned Marks had gone to the Atlanta airport and traveled to Los Angeles using an alias. Gwinnett County Police said their detectives alerted LAPD, who found the mom and child at a previous location associated with Marks.
"Detectives would like to thank the Los Angeles Police Department and federal and state agencies for assisting in this case," Gwinnett Police said.
