ATLANTA — A missing 8-year-old girl from southwest Atlanta has been reunited with her family.
Police had been searching for Imani Colvin, of Clayton County, after she went missing from her mom's boyfriend's care around 8 p.m. on Thursday night.
Lt. Jeff Baxter said Colvin and her caregiver got into some type of "defiant situation" and that's when she left the Perkerson Park area. Her younger brother was with her, according to police, but wasn't able to keep up with her as she was leaving the park.
Authorities said the caregiver searched for the young girl around the area but couldn't find her, so he contacted the police.
According to police Colvin left the park with two other girls not much older than her.
Police said she had stayed overnight with one of the girls, not far from Perkerson Park. The adults at the home were shocked that she was there.
The all-night police search included K9s and helicopters, Lt. Jeff Baxter said.
"A lot of us have children at home. We were out here in the rain all night long. Officers did a tremendous job," he said. "We all felt for her. We were determined not to leave here until we found her.’
