ROME, Ga. — An AMBER Alert has been canceled for 2-year-old who was reported missing Monday afternoon.
According to Rome Police, the child's father took the toddler without permission; authorities said he has no legal authority to take custody of them.
The 2-year-old was reported missing around 10 a.m. after last being seen on Fountain Square in Rome, Georgia with the 34-year-old father.
Police said they tracked the father through his cell phone and multiple agencies surrounded the area.
"A captain with the Rome Police Department Hostage Negotiation Team was able to make contact with the suspect who agreed to surrender himself and to turn the child over to officers," officers said in a news release.
Just before 1 p.m., the toddler was recovered safely.
"The recovery was at a location near Sam Harris Road in Rome," police said.
The dad is being charged with kidnapping, cruelty to a child, obstruction of a 911 call, battery under the Family Violence Act.
