Marietta Police searching for missing 71-year-old assisted living facility patient | What we know

Police said that Cartha Speed, 71, wandered away from his assisted living facility around 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday. He was reported missing at 2:25 p.m.

MARIETTA, Ga. — Marietta Police are searching for a missing elderly patient who wandered away from his assisted living facility on Tuesday afternoon. 

According to police, 71-year-old Cartha Speed is a resident of the Marietta Center for Nursing and Healing facility at 811 Kennesaw Avenue in Marietta. Authorities said he wandered away from the facility around 12:15 p.m. and was reported missing at 2:25 p.m. 

The facility reported that he was last seen walking out alone around 12:15 p.m. He does not have any electronics or money with him and may be confused. As of 6:30 p.m., GSP was assisting with its helicopter in and around the area of Marietta Square, as information suggests he was there earlier in the afternoon. 

Speed was last seen wearing a gray fleece sweatshirt, blue sweatpants and a blue ball cap. He sometimes prefers to wear a face mask. Police said he is being treated for various medical issues, including dementia and anxiety. 

Anyone with information about his location is asked to call 911 immediately.
