Four weeks later and still 'no substantial leads' in case of missing Gainesville girl, investigators say

Authorities previously said Gomez-Perez was last seen at her home on Westside Drive on May 29 and was reported missing the next day.

GAINESVILLE, Ga. — It's been nearly a month since the disappearance of Gainesville 12-year-old Maria Gomez-Perez

On Thursday, the Hall County Sheriff's Office provided an update that investigators have received leads from several states, including South Carolina, Tennessee, Florida, Alabama, Texas, Illinois and Maryland. However, investigators said none of those leads have brought them closer to finding Gomez-Perez.

"At this time, the Hall County Sheriff’s Office still does not know where Maria is. Investigators do, however, remain vigilant in the search for Maria," the sheriff's office wrote in a press release Thursday evening.

Authorities previously said Gomez-Perez was last seen at her home on Westside Drive on May 29 and was reported missing the next day. She is 5-foot 3-inches tall, weighs between 100 and 110 pounds, and has brown eyes and long black hair. Investigators previously said she was last seen wearing a bright blue shirt.

The sheriff's office said it's still receiving assistance from its local, state and federal law enforcement partners, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Homeland Security, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) and various other agencies.

"We understand the community is frustrated at the lack of answers in Maria’s case. That said, our investigators are not giving up hope, and we ask our community to remain hopeful with us. We continue to seek key information that will lead us to Maria," the sheriff's office added.

A $50,000 reward is still being offered to find Gomez-Perez. Anyone with information on the 12-year-old's missing person case is asked to call the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) tip line, which remains open at 770-503-3232. Email tips may be sent to intelrequest@hallcounty.org. Investigators said tips can remain anonymous.
