DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Two older women who were missing since Tuesday have been found safe in DeKalb County.
DeKalb police were called in to help find 71-year-old Maudine Phelps and 63-year-old Phoebe Jackson-Nemeth when the family reported that they left but never came home.
11Alive's Hope Ford spoke to Phelps' family members who said their mother used to be the caretaker for Jackson-Nemeth. Her son said the pair were headed to a doctor's appointment when they got turned around and got lost.
Phelps' daughter, Anitra Daniels, said her mom called the office trying to get directions, but she got turned around even more. Phelps then called Daniels and told her she was going home and would reschedule the appointment.
That was the last time she spoke with her mother.
When Daniels realized her mom didn't make it home, she's tried calling her but it appeared her phone had died. They found her charger at home.
"She can’t call me and she can’t call nobody and say 'we’re here' and we’ll just say stay there and we’ll come to you," she explained.
The family went out searching for the two around 7 p.m. Tuesday and continued until about 3:30 a.m. the next day. They then filed a report - and so did one of Jackson-Nemeth's family members.
Both women were confirmed safe on Thursday after being seen at a local hospital and released.
