Mother in custody, accused of kidnapping her son in Newton County, sheriff says

Authorities said Keshawn James, 9, was picked up by his biological mother at South Salem Elementary School at 10:45 a.m. She did not have permission to pick him up.

NEWTON COUNTY, Ga. — A mother is in custody, and her 9-year-old son has been found safe after an alleged kidnapping on Tuesday, according to the Newton County Sheriff's Office. 

Earlier in the day, authorities said Keshawn James, 9, was picked up by his biological mother at South Salem Elementary School at 10:45 a.m. 

The sheriff's office said Keshawn's mother, Mya Favors, did not have permission to pick him up and is in violation of a custody arrangement.
