HEARD COUNTY, Ga. — Georgia Department of Natural Resources game wardens have found the body of a 27-year-old man after a boater disappeared on the Chattahoochee River late Tuesday night.
The boater was later identified as Brandon Scott Jones. His disappearance sparked a search centered around a boat ramp on Glover Road in Franklin.
Officials said Jones' body was found early Thursday morning.
Witnesses told game wardens that they saw a boat circling without an operator. The officers immediately began searching using SONAR tools. During the search, Heard County officials closed off the boat ramp area and part of the river.
According to the Georgia DNR, the river was high and cloudy, making the search difficult. Volunteers found the victim's body floating in the river channel south of the search area.
Officials recovered his body a short time later. Authorities said they do not believe foul play is suspected.
