Remains of woman who vanished from boyfriend's home in Newton County in 2018 found in woods

Stacey Nease vanished from her boyfriend's home in August 2018 and was reported missing shortly after.

NEWTON COUNTY, Ga. — The skeletal remains of a missing Newton County woman who disappeared back in 2018 "under suspicious circumstances" have been positively identified.

Newton County Sheriff's Office deputies found skeletal human remains in a wooded area off Hollingsworth Road on March 20. On Tuesday, the sheriff's office confirmed those remains were those of Stacey Nease.

Nease vanished from her boyfriend's home in August 2018 and was reported missing shortly after. For the last six years, there have been no answers on what happened to Nease.

The Newton County Sheriff's Office said the positive identification of her remains by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation "reignites" the investigation into Nease's disappearance and death.

"The investigation remains ongoing, and all efforts are being made to uncover the suspicious circumstances surrounding her death," the sheriff's office said in a news release on Tuesday.

Anyone with information on Nease's death is urged to call investigator Joshua Hicks at 678-625-1455 or email him at jhicks@newtonsheriffga.org.

"Any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, could be crucial in helping solve this case and bring closure to the family of Stacey Nease," the sheriff's office said.
