SNELLVILLE, Ga. — Update:
Police said the child is safe and the father is in custody. Authorities later said Wednesday evening that officers responded to the 1800-block of Englewood Way in Snellville in response to an abduction call.
When officers arrived, the mother said her 4-year-old daughter had been taken by the child's father – who currently doesn't have any custodial rights. The mother told officers the father had forced his way into their home.
After issuing an Amber Alert, detectives were able to track the suspect's cell phone to the area of Club Lake Parkway in Lawrenceville. Authorities were able to safely remove the 4-year-old and take her father into custody.
According to Snellville Police, the child's father resisted arrest and sustained a cut to his head. He was taken to the hospital for treatment. Once released, Snellville Police said he will be booked into the jail for kidnapping, burglary, interference with a 911 call, obstruction and terroristic threats.
"The terroristic threats charge was in reference to threatening to kill officers that were arresting him," according to Snellville Police. "Great work by all the SPD officers that played a huge role in the safe return of the victim! Big thanks to GCPD Central Precinct Officers, GCPD SWAT officers, GCPD K9, and AIR 1 that assisted during the arrest!"
