DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Police say they have arrested the suspect wanted in the murder of a Georgia State University student who family thought was missing.
May 15, police said 24-year-old Jason Williams was shot and killed at a Citgo gas station on Columbia Drive. First responders found him in the parking lot of the business in critical condition but were unable to save him.
Police were initially unable to get in touch with immediate family, who reported him as missing the same day.
A missing poster that was shared on Instagram Wednesday morning claimed Williams, a senior at Georgia State, had spoken to his parents about a job orientation that was coming up Wednesday. But, sadly, he never made it to the event and his calls began going straight to voicemail.
Days later, police were able to contact the family, confirming that their missing son had actually been murdered.
Now, days after the mix-up, police believe they have caught the man responsible.
Tuesday, the DeKalb County Sheriff's Fugitive Unit arrested 22-year-old Roden Meadows and charged him with murder.
Officials said surveillance video from the gas station showed Williams and Meadows together before the shooting. An argument then broke out between them as they sat inside a vehicle. That argument led to Williams being shot, stepping outside the vehicle, then collapsing to the ground. Police said the vehicle then drove off, leaving him to die.
Police said they are now questioning Meadows further on the incident.
