ATLANTA — Martin Luther King Day is all about honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Here are some events you can attend to honor him on Jan 21.
MLK 5K Race
Time: 8:45 a.m.
Location: Piedmont Park
Details: Walkers and runners join together for a race through Piedmont Park. A drumline plays along the race. Ice skating session at Park Tavern rink included. Jan. 21. Music, 8 a.m. Line up, 8:45 a.m.
MLK Day of Service
Time: 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
Location: The King Center
Details: The King Center will conduct a service project in partnership with Hands on Atlanta, Accenture, the Mission Continues and the Atlanta Super Bowl Host Committee on the King Center’s campus. We will be assembling and collecting “Activity Kits” for youth ages 13 – 18 who are patients of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. You can participate in three ways: 1) Make a monetary contribution ($250.00 to help create 50 Activity Kits) 2) Collect and drop-off items to be included in the Activity Kits 3) Drop-off Activity Kits already assembled. Activity Kit Items: 1) Sudoku Books, 2) Word Search Books, 3) Mechanical Pencils, 4) Playing Cards, 5) Journals (Accepting ONLY Items Listed)

MLK Celebration
Time: 10 a.m.
Location: Turner Chapel AME Church Cobb County at 492 North Marietta Parkway NE, Marietta.
Details: This year’s event will feature entertainment and the annual presentation of the "Living the Dream" award to community members who demonstrates the ideals King exemplified. This celebration is hosted by Cobb County Government and the Cobb County branch of the NAACP.
MLK Parade and March
Time: 10:00 a.m.
Location: 37 Lemon St, McDonough continues in downtown McDonough
Details: Honor MLK with a parade and peace march.
MLK Birthday Parade
Time: 10:30 a.m.
Location: Fayetteville
Details: Honor Dr. King and enjoy a program following the parade. It begins at 1 Tiger Trail through downtown Fayetteville and ends with a commemorative program at 205 Lafayette Dr., Fayetteville.
MLK Parade and Celebration
Time: 11:00 a.m.
Location: Gwinnett
Details: Begins 75 Langley Dr., Lawrenceville and continues down Lawrenceville Hwy.
MLK Day of Service
Time: 11:00 a.m.
Location: Jefferson Park Recreation Center located at 1431 Norman Berry Drive in East Point
Details: MLK volunteers will serve hot meals to individuals and families in need. East Point has a variety of activities planned for its first annual MLK Day of Service, including health and wellness screenings conducted by WellStar Atlanta Medical Center-South, JenCare Senior Medical Center and ENT Associates of Atlanta.
MLK Parade:
Time: 12:00 p.m.
Location: The parade will begin at Government Circle, behind the Clayton County Police Department, and will end at College Street near First Baptist Church.
MLK March and Rally hosted by the Georgia Alliance for Social Justice
Time: 1:45 p.m.
Location: The march begins on Peachtree Street in Downtown Atlanta and will conclude with a rally celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Details: In 2019, the anniversary of the Atlanta March for Social Justice and Women coincides with the annual Atlanta Martin Luther King Jr. March. Because the Georgia Alliance for Social Justice, founded upon the Kingian Principles, wishes to contribute to the celebrations of Dr. King’s life and legacy, we are not holding a Women’s March in Atlanta in 2019.
