Lost runner called police for help before cell phone died, found safe

Police say Dowling called 9-1-1 for help before his cell phone battery died.

CANTON, Ga. - Police were searching for a man who went missing on a walking trail in Boling Park Sunday.

According to Canton PD, Brendan Dowling, 41, had called 9-1-1 at around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday and told police that he was lost on Rampley Trail and that his cell phone battery was dying.

After searching for nearly 10 hours, officers were able to locate Dowling in the wood line.

Crews were assisting in the search by using ATV's and Georgia State Patrol had a helicopter searching for Dowling as well.

Police say there are a series of trails in the park adding up to around seven to eight miles.

Dowling's condition is not known at this time but he is speaking and alert. Police are still unaware of how he got lost in the first place.

Officer Pacer Cordry, with Canton PD, believed the temperatures could have been the biggest threat to Dowling,

"Yeah, the weather is probably the biggest danger to him right now. It is getting pretty cold and when you're exposed to those temperatures, especially if you're hurt or injured, it can become life threatening."

Dowling is described as being 5'7", 185 lbs., having red-blonde hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing shorts and a T-shirt.

According to Dowling's family, he did not seem depressed or revealed any signs that he was in danger. They also say that Dowling is from the Kennesaw area and is an avid runner.
