DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Six people are hurt after a shooting in a residential area of DeKalb County Thursday night, according to the police department. A massive police presence can be spotted at the scene.
Authorities responded to a home at the 2300 block of Greenway Drive at the intersection of Snapfinger Way around 10 p.m. The home is not far from the Kroger on Wesley Chapel Road near Wesley Chapel Park.
In a press conference on Thursday night, DeKalb County Police Lt. Shane Smith said that six men were shot but that they were all alive. He said the youngest involved in the shooting was 18 years old. He said they were rushed to the hospital with their conditions ranging from minor to serious, although he said it does not appear at this time that any of the injuries sustained were life-threatening.
He said the shootout started between two groups that were in the neighborhood.
One resident told 11Alive at the scene that he had just gotten home when he heard what he described as 30 to 40 gunshots rattle off. He said after one round of gunfire, there was a pause and then a second round of gunfire. He said he has seen anywhere from seven to nine ambulances leaving the scene.
DeKalb County's Crime Scene Investigation unit is also at the scene of the shooting.
