'Murder Kroger' gets its own shirt, candelight vigil

The Atlanta grocery store known by some as "Murder Kroger" may be going away soon, but it will live on in the hearts -- and on the backs -- of some.

The Atlanta grocery store known as "Murder Kroger" may be going away soon, but its name will live on in the hearts -- and on the backs -- of some forever (or at least however long a t-shirt lasts).

Last week, Atlanta development firm New City LLC and The Kroger Co. reached an agreement to close the Ponce de Leon Avenue store Oct. 28. It'll be replaced by a $190 million redevelopment that will eventually include a new 60,000-square-foot Kroger.

For more than two decades, the store has been dubbed by some "Murder Kroger." It’s been the subject of a website, Facebook page and even has a song dedicated to it.

According to a Facebook page that may or not may not be entirely serious*, supporters of the grocery store plan to hold a "candleLIT" vigil Thursday, Oct. 27 from 8 p.m. to midnight. More than 1,300 people said they are "interested" in attending the vigil, with another 300 saying they're in.

And there's even a commemorative t-shirt to remember the store by. Sexy Girl Rock is selling a shirt which depicts the word "Murder" using a font very similar to Kroger's. It comes in both men's and women's styles, with two colors to choose from: white or black. It costs $22.99 on Teespring.com (Note: this shirt is not endorsed or affiliated with Kroger at all).

*it's almost certainly NOT serious. But the shirt looks real.

This is what the new Murder Kroger will look like... wow.
