ATHENS, Ga. — A serious accident has a major highway in Athens shut down to eastbound traffic.
Athens-Clarke County Fire and Emergency Services reports that both eastbound lanes of Atlanta Highway are shut down. Photos show two vehicles that are heavily damaged with one, a truck, laying on its roof.
Two patients have been taken to an area hospital by National EMS. The names and conditions of the victims haven't been released.
Authorities also haven't identified the cause of the crash. However, first responders are warning the public to still be careful even as the roads finally dry out after recent heavy rains.
"We urge all to use caution while traveling due to greater numbers of people out and about," the fire department said.
