Because Mom: “We empower each other”

A Cumming resident is bringing local women together, following the success of her website.

CUMMING, Ga. — Just over a year ago, Caroline Ryan saw a local social media post that gave her an idea. The post read “Am I the only mother in Forsyth that has no girlfriends to hang out with?!”

“I just watched it and commented,” Ryan said. “It took me a minute because the month before that I had a miscarriage, and at that point I found out I don't have anyone to talk to about it.”

She started a website called “Because Mom” to connect women in the area.

“We have coffee dates and things like that,” Ryan said. “Discounts...just kind of a brief of everything.”

She quickly gained about 500 members, but that number is now in the thousands, and it reaches more than just the local area.

“We have a lot of people drive in from Ellijay for events and Carrollton,” Ryan said. “A lot of people were messaging me from Johns Creek and even as far as Texas and California.”

Her goal is simple.

“Just connect everyone and let them know that we empower each other and it's tough, especially being a woman. But I think 2019 is going to be an amazing year for us, and we can do anything we put our minds to,” Ryan said.

The next big event for the group is a monthly dinner taking place on Saturday, February 23, 2019 from 6:30 to 9 P.M. at Hacienda Bar and Grill in Cumming.
