CUMMING, Ga. — Approximately 12 hours after a social distancing ordinance went into effect in Cumming -- and 9 hours after that ordinance was rescinded -- a new social distancing ordinance is in place.
In a post on social media, Mayor Troy Brumbalow explained the circumstances that went into the confusing hours at city hall. Citing personal issues and social media reactions, the mayor explained that he had signed a new ordinance after backlash related to rescinding the first one.
The two biggest changes cited in his post was the new ordinance would not include a fine for violators of social distancing. There is also no provision in the new ordinance for "social distancing officers" to join the Cumming Police.
Uniformed officers will remind violators of proper social distancing if residents are not doing so.

Previously, the mayor rescinded the social distancing order in an overnight post, citing some residents' fear that the previous order created a "police state."
