Walls are talking at Cumming Cigar Co.

Tales of moonshine, gambling, and ghosts surround historic Sinclair Gas station.

CUMMING, Ga. — The historic Sinclair gas station in downtown Cumming has been an iconic landmark in the town since the 1920s. After years of vacancy, the building was brought back to life by the owners of Cumming Cigar Co. Now two months in, the staff are sharing some secrets they've discovered along the way.

Tales of an underground gambling game, a moonshine distribution center, and unusual noises coming from the basement may not be tales says co-owner, Carter Patterson.

"Since we've been open, people continue to tell us stories about this place. When we started remodeling the building, we actually found a jar of moonshine hidden in one of the ways," says Patterson.

Patterson also reveals that staff and other visitors to the building have reported hearing clinking and feeling a shaking sensation coming from the basement of the building.

"There's a few stories about card games being played down here where one farmer lost his property in a bet, and then a poker game turned into a robbery where players were forced to strip down to their birthday suit so they couldn't escape," says Patterson.

Before transforming into a cigar shop, the building was used as a city welcome center. Tours are available of the shop at request.

You can visit Cumming Cigar Company Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
