The proposed facility is off the table after residents protested it's location and secrecy.

The county will consider other sites and seek further input from the community for a new facility in northern Forsyth County.

In a statement, District 4 Commissioner Cindy Jones Mills said:

“Working together we will find a site to meet the future needs of Forsyth County’s water and sewer infrastructure, which will include meeting the requirements of the Georgia EPD.  These requirements call for us to reclaim and return clean water back to Lake Lanier. We will continue to provide public education on these environmental topics, including the impact from septic tanks.  We will reach our goals of managing and protecting the water resources in Forsyth County through a cooperative effort with our community, county and state agencies, and organizations like the Lake Lanier Association and Riverkeepers. Together we can create cleaner and safer water for our children and grandchildren to enjoy.”
