A local coffee shop is fighting childhood cancer one cup at a time. Located in downtown Cumming, Community Cup Coffeehouse and Bar has partnered with CURE Childhood Cancer and committed to a $10,000 annual donation.
“When I decided to open my own place, I decided I wanted to combine my passions - fun, food service industry, coffee, alcohol, and CURE childhood cancer and kind of make this whole business plan around all those things together,” Jalynn Barr, Community Cup owner, said. “You can go anywhere for a cup of coffee and we get that, and we’re not coffee professionals by any stretch of the imagination. We’re just trying to create a comfortable spot that’s fun, has some unique offerings, and that’s involved and gives back to the community.”
The shop, which just opened in April, offers everything you might expect from a business with ‘coffeehouse’ in the name, but there’s much more than just caffeinated beverages and baked goods. You can also build your own sandwich and enjoy an adult beverage (Bloody Mary bar on Saturdays), but Barr says she does not want people to get the wrong idea.
“I want to be a coffeehouse that serves alcohol, not a bar that serves coffee,” she said.
Daily specials are offered, and Santa will soon make an appearance – just one of many holiday events planned for the coming month.
