CUMMING, Ga. — One of the most popular local Italian delis in the area is asking residents to continue to be good neighbors during a time of uncertainty.
Over the last few days, Marie's Italian Deli made pleas on social media encouraging customers to continue to dine at the locally owned business. The beloved deli has an extremely loyal customer base in the Cumming area, and owners say they're still seeing strong support.
"We've had people come in and say 'here's a hundred dollars' or 'let me buy a gift card' all to make sure we stay afloat," said Matthew Smith, co-owner of Marie's Italian Deli.
As owners of the deli express concern over smaller crowds, the local eatery is still finding ways to give back to the community. The deli announced that they are partnering with the Place of Forsyth to provide 50 bagged lunches for children out of school in need of a meal.
"We really want to challenge other restaurants and businesses in the area to do the same. If we don't have support from each other, then we don't have anything. This is time to show that we care about our community and for everyone to come together," says Karen Smith, owner of Marie's Italian Deli.
Karen and her son, Matthew, say they continue to provide the cleanest and quality experience they can at Marie's Italian Deli. Both owners adding that they will continue to come to work and serve the community until they're not allowed to anymore.
"If we do have to shut down, we're planning to offer curbside service and possibly delivery services. We have always been an extremely clean restaurant, but we have stepped up game wiping down every condiment bottle, chair, and handle to make sure people still feel comfortable and safe," explained Karen.
