CUMMING, Ga. — The Gypsy’s Farmhouse just opened in Cumming a few months ago, but the owner says it’s been a quick success.
“We opened March 1st, and we had projected what our sales would be that first month,” Jo Carr, the owner, said. “We actually doubled them, and we've grown. And the Facebook reception that we've gotten, the likes and comments and whatever, has been more than we ever anticipated, so it's been great. It's been way better than what we thought.”
The boutique sells locally made and refurbished items including, furniture, jewelry, clothing, and home décor.
“We have woodsman and bath product makers, furniture flippers, just a ton of talent,” Carr said. “It's an eclectic group of artisans that are not just passionate about their art, but they're just really genuine about our community and giving back.”
Carr says the vendors hold monthly meetings and have been discussing ways they can give back to the community.
“We all come up with these terrific ideas every time we have a meeting,” she said. “So finally, we determined, if we just come up with all these great ideas but never get put them into motion, then they're worthless. So we formed a committee of four ladies and it will change quarterly.”
The committee coordinated a fundraising event for this Saturday. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Forsyth County Humane Society.
“There was a nice lady who came here and met with us, just letting us know what they're all about and exactly what they need,” Carr said. “We know we're going to have a continuing partnership with them throughout the year and do several events to help them raise money.”
Similar events have already been planned, benefitting a variety of local groups.
“We're really looking forward to, in the future, doing things with Meals by Grace. They provide meals for the less fortunate families that would not otherwise have a meal,” Carr said. “Adopt-a-highway, spay and neuter program, Alzheimer's research. It's endless what we want to do to give back to our community.”
The Gypsy’s Farmhouse is located at 598 Veterans Memorial Blvd. in Cumming. It’s open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. this Saturday, and each vendor will determine how much of their sales will be given to the humane society – anywhere from 5 to 20 percent.
