CUMMING, Ga. — Cumming local Caroline Reilly made her TV debut on season 17 of The Voice this week as she earned a spot on Team Gwen.
The 16-year-old's audition aired on Monday, October 14, and she claimed the last spot on Gwen Stefani's team. Singing 'Somebody to Love' by Jefferson Airplane, the teen said she had no idea how many spots were left walking out on stage.
“I was so nervous and excited at the same time. I didn’t know what was going to happen. I didn’t know how many teams were left so it was truly a blind audition. I went on stage, and just did my thing," said Reilly.
Reilly's family owns a music recording studio in Cumming called Freedom Academy of Music Education. The Voice contestant says she spent hours practicing her blind audition song inside her family's studio.
"There were so many steps that I had to go through before I actually got to the blind audition. I just didn't realize how involved it was, and it was all so exciting," says Reilly.
Reilly's mother, Charity, and father, Patrick, say they become friends with other parents during the audition process. "It's just so nice to be around families that are as into their child's passion as we are. We really bonded with all of the contestants and their families," says Charity.
Reilly's father has since gained attention for his enthusiasm during his daughter's blind audition. "I am her biggest fan. So to see her on a stage like that is just incredible. I was experiencing every emotion that you can think of as a parent watching their child on national television," says Patrick.
Caroline is the third Forsyth County resident to appear on the NBC show. Riley Beiderer made it through four rounds on season 9, and Chris Cauley made it through the blind auditions on season 2.
You can watch The Voice on 11 Alive every Monday and Tuesday at 8 pm.
