ATLANTA — After a terrifying hit and run left an east Atlanta woman seriously injured, she and her husband are looking for the driver responsible for this incident.
The driver hit the Warrens on June 29 as they were riding their bikes to an Atlanta United game, something they typically do when they attend the soccer matches.
The unknown driver struck Valerie around 4:45 p.m. as she was traveling in the bike lane on Hosea Williams Drive, according to police.
"Lots of accidents happen in Atlanta, but people stop," she said.
No arrests have been made yet and an investigation is underway.
After spending two days in the ICU at Grady Memorial Hospital, Valerie's husband, David, began to conduct his own investigation.
He personally sourced surveillance video from the area from local business owners and home security cameras.
"We've been anxious to get some resolution on this and we want the people who did this to be held responsible," he said.
David initiated a fundraiser on Facebook with the goal of raising $5,000 to raise money for a reward that leads to the conviction of the hit and run driver.
The fundraiser exceeded its goal, raising more than $6,900.
"I wasn't sure what was in my power to do but I figured I could raise money," he said.
The Warrens told 11Alive that no one has come forward yet with a tip.
Ultimately, this Kirkwood couple wants the driver to be held accountable.
"They know they're responsible. They're the ones who drifted over into the bike lane and hit not just me but also my husband," Valerie said.
The reward is for information that can lead to the driver's conviction. Anyone with information is urged to call Atlanta police or Crimestoppers at 404-577-TIPS.
