Hapeville church hosts free concert series

The Hapeville First United Methodist Church concert features 'Jazz on the Lawn'

HAPEVILLE, Ga. — The weather is brisk but not chilly on the lawn of the Hapeville First United Methodist Church as the jazz trio warms up for the concert. Being the consummate host, Pastor J.R. Atkins divides his time between getting things ready for the evening and welcoming newcomers. A dozen or so lawnchairs are already scattered across the courtyard.

Jazz on the Lawn is a monthly event that is free to the public, it features a Jazz Trio performing jazz standards and contemporary selections. Also part of the monthly festivities is food trucks, yard games for children and a fire pit for roasting marshmallows.

With cooler temperatures on the horizon, Pastor Atkins told My East Point News that once it has gotten too cold for folks to be outside, the event will relocate to Arches Brewery, which is right around the corner.

The proceeds from the concert series help fund Hapeville-area arts initiatives such as the pew refurbishments, for instance. The Hapeville First United Methodist Church will be accepting donations both during the concert and regular office hours. The church address is 3510 Atlanta Avenue, Hapeville, GA 30354. The next Jazz on the Lawn will take place on November 21, 2019.
