SW Atlanta residents voice concerns at public safety forum

Lawmakers and community leaders from several South Fulton cities, including East Point, came to discuss solutions to the recent rise in theft, public safety and more.

EAST POINT, Ga. — Residents from several communities came to voice their concerns at a public safety forum.

“I’m here about car break-ins and things happening in the [Camp Creek] Marketplace,” said East Point resident Kathy Dingler.

District 62 State Representative William Bodie, East Point Mayor Deana Holiday Ingraham, East Point City Councilwoman Stephanie Gordon, and Major Shawn Buchanan of East Point Police were only a few of the officials at the event.

“It’s really impressive to have our Senators and State Representatives here, showing that they care,” said South Fulton resident Kathryn Dyrd.

Officials answered questions and gave advice on how to stay safe.

“I think people are being victimized at a rate that is just too much,” said Atlanta resident David Davis.

The Thursday night event, hosted by East Point City Councilman Joshua Butler, was the first of its kind for 2019.

However, many who attended said they hope there will be more joint city forums soon.
