EAST POINT, Ga. — Tri-Cities High School basketball team is headed to the Final Four this Saturday. They will compete against Brunswick High School in the GHSA Boys State Basketball Tournament.
Head coach Omari Forts says the team has big plans to bring home the trophy. “I talk to the guys all the time about making the community proud,” Fort said.
This is the team's third straight year reaching the state quarterfinals, but the first time in school history advancing to the Final Four. With an overall record of 24-6 and an undefeated record at home, the Bulldogs came into the tournament as the top team in Region 5.
If Tri-Cities wins the championship, it will be the first time in the history of the school and perfect timing for the 30-year anniversary of the school.
In addition to athletic success, the team is seeing academic success as well, with a 100 percent graduation rate within the basketball team. “In my thirteen years as head coach, I’ve never had a kid flunk off the team,” said Coach Forts.
The semifinal match up is Saturday at 4 p.m. at the University of West Georgia in Carrollton. The winner of Brunswick/Tri-Cities will play the winner of the other semifinal, either Tucker or Heritage, on March 9.
