Four years to the day after the disappearance of a Lawrenceville man, police have made an arrest in connection with a cold case disappearance.
On January 4, 2015 -- four years ago -- Samuel Waters, then 21 years old, vanished in Gwinnett County.
Search teams from law enforcement agencies across Gwinnett County and other parts of metro Atlanta had searched far and wide for any sign of Waters.
Several search teams from the Lawrenceville Police Department and the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office concentrated in the area around Suwanee Dam Road and Buford Dam Road in the Buford area.
Investigators said that on the night of January 4, 2015, Waters got into a car of an acquaintance to go get some beer at a convenience store down the street from the Lawrenceville duplex where he lived with his fiancee, Jhel Sola.
Waters' sister, Consuella Acosta, said that according to information the acquaintance gave police, all of a sudden Waters told him to stop the car.
"He told the person to let him out of the car, to just let him out of the car," Acosta said. "And then, after that, we never heard from him."
Acosta said that Waters had just gotten a job interview which was supposedly scheduled for the day after he had gone missing. She said that he had been looking forward to the job prospect and the money that it would potentially bring in.
According to investigators, records indicated a ping on Waters' cellphone not long after he disappeared on the night of January 4. The ping was in an area about 16 miles away from where he had disappeared, which left everyone baffled.
Waters' fiancee gave birth to the couple's daughter on February 11, 2015, just over a month after he vanished.
His family has remained active in the intervening year on social media, primarily with a Facebook page, Find Samuel Waters.
According to Capt. Jeff Smith of the Lawrenceville Police Department, a long-time person of interest in the case, 24-year-old Jeffrey Moulder of Covington, was arrested on Friday, January 4, 2019, on multiple counts of making false statements.
