Over the weekend, some applicants received a conditional job offer from Gwinnett County Police department.
Farah Montinard was among the first to be hired at a job fair looking for more than 100 openings with the department.
Montinard had always been looking to become a police officer.
"I am originally from Haiti, I've seen a lot of struggles. I've always wanted to do something to protect the community," Montinard said.
Montinard was quickly approved at the job fair because the typical 30-day process of phase one in becoming an officer was expedited.
The Gwinnett County Police Department expedited the process over the weekend to fill the 100 openings for police officers. As well as the 20 openings for communication officers.
"In the 2000s, Gwinnett County population has continued to grow. So the need of the police department is to grow with our population. Keep our ratio of citizens to police officers at an acceptable rate," said Corporal Benjamin Finney.
Next Monday, the County Commission will vote to approve the 2019 budget. The budget includes funding to gain even more officers.
