GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Gwinnett County Public School officials have not notified the district of confirmed cases of the coronavirus in students or staff, but the district is taking precautions and informing families with the facts.
The school sent out two letters to parents on Tuesday, outlining new policies for school-related travel and day to day procedures.
The district said that there will be no changes to already approved student travel, but new requests for non-essential overnight student travel are not encouraged. Officials adding that all student and staff attendance incentives are suspended for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.
In the letter, the district confirmed that they have no plans to cancel school:
"Our health partners indicate the overall risk to the general public remains low and there has been no guidance indicating a need to cancel school in Gwinnett."
Adding that they are continually disinfecting public high touch surfaces in the school:
"Our custodians have reviewed proper cleaning and disinfecting procedures and are paying particular attention to high-touch surfaces (like doorknobs, faucet handles, etc.)."
The school document did say that school officials are surveying students and their families to determine the level of online access in preparation for Digital Learning Day (DLD) options.
Gwinnett Schools is the largest district in the state. Fulton County Schools have been closed since Tuesday for cleaning and disinfection after a district employee tested positive for coronavirus.
