Kroger school supply giveaway brings relief to metro-Atlanta educators

Metro Atlanta teachers filled the Infinite Energy Center Tuesday for free school supplies.

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — The first day of school is right around the corner for many metro Atlanta school districts and hundreds of educators filled the Infinite Energy Center in Gwinnett to receive free school supplies.

Kroger hosted the giveaway Tuesday where educators had the opportunity to fill a reusable bag with up to $30 in free, school-related supplies.

The teachers who attended Tuesday's giveaway said they look forward to this event.

"It means a lot. Every year, I come out to this Kroger event. This gets me started, and I like that," teacher Delfina Lewis said.

"It takes off a burden, and I still use my money for other things for my students."

Some of the educators who attended Tuesday's event said this giveaway also will help them save money.

"Supplies are expensive so it's good to have something to start off with. These little items go a long way, especially things like paper towels," paraprofessional Rhodesia Ellison said.

Target also announced that they are offering their Teacher Prep Event, offering a 15 percent discount on select classroom supplies from July 13 to 20.
