Lawrenceville local state of emergency extended

The Lawrenceville City Council approved an extension of the local state of emergency through May 13.

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. — By a unanimous vote during a live remote City Council meeting on April 15, the Lawrenceville City Council approved an extension of the local state of emergency through May 13.

This declaration comes after Governor Brian Kemp extended the State of Emergency for the State of Georgia through May 13 and the Shelter in Place Order through April 30.

“I continue to believe it is in the best interest of the City to declare a local state of emergency,” said Mayor David Still.  “Extending the current order to match the Governor’s is the right decision for Lawrenceville, placing our City in the best possible position to continue to provide for the protection, safety, health and welfare of the public.”

The City’s extended state of emergency does not in any way conflict, vary, or differ from the Governor’s April 8, 2020, Executive Order and continues to allow for the following:

  1. City Council and all other City public meetings may conduct meetings and take votes by teleconference
  2. City Manager, with approval of Mayor, shall have authority to take such actions deemed necessary or appropriate for public health and safety of the citizens of Lawrenceville
  3. Allowance of purchases by the City to meet emergency provisions of the City’s purchasing ordinance
  4. Allowance for staff to temporarily waive certain ordinances and regulations to help businesses during these uncertain times such as:
    • Restaurants licensed to sell beer and wine for on-premise consumption to sell unopened bottles of beer or wine (with food purchase)
    • Delay in due date for alcohol excise tax payments for restaurants licensed to sell alcoholic beverages
    • Creation of drive-thru/pick-up lanes for restaurants on the downtown square
  5. Any matter requiring a public hearing before the City Council is postponed during the effective dates of the Public Health State of Emergency.

The local emergency declaration is extended until 11:59 pm on May 13, 2020, unless terminated or extended by further action of the Council.
