LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. — Thursday is opening night for "Native Gardens" at the Aurora Theatre. The play is a comedy about a young Lantinx couple who moves into a wealthy Maryland neighborhood as they grow their family.
Although, the couple shares a common interest in gardening with their neighbors, the Butleys. The two families soon find out they have very little in common.
"I think it's a great opportunity for all these different cultures to come together and have a conversation about what it means to be neighbors," Cristian Gonzales, who plays Pablo DelValle, said.
Gonzales character Pablo DelValle is the husband to Tania DelValle played by Fedra Ramirez-Olivares, the young couple is at a transitional phase in their careers as they add on a new addition to their family.
"She is eight months pregnant, despite that she is gardening all day, she is doing research for her Ph.D., and she's got all these things going on. She has a lot of high energy," Ramirez-Olivares said.
This is Ramirez-Olivares first time in Georgia and is enjoying her time at the Aurora.
"It's a really warm theatre, really community-driven, which is awesome for this play," Ramirez-Olivares said.
Gonzales has been to Georgia before but is excited to experience his first time at the Aurora.
On opening night you may see some faces who are very familiar to the Georgia theatre scene.
Carolyn Cook, founder and producing artistic director for Atlanta’s French-language theater, Théâtre du Rêve, will star as Virginia Butley. Bart Hansar returns to the Aurora theater as Frank Butley.
The cast is led by director Daniel Jáque. Opening night is May 2 and the final day to see the play will be on June 2nd.
