MACON, Ga. — Former Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal has a new role: Professor.
News outlets report that Deal will serve as the Distinguished University Professor of Government at Mercer University.
Mercer University announced the appointment this week. The former two-term governor is a graduate of the private university.
Deal will begin the post on Jan. 1.
The state Board of Regents earlier this year also hired Deal to teach and hold lectures at the University of Georgia System.
Deal's appointment to that position took effect on March 1 and will last for three years. The Atlanta Business Chronicle reported that he plans to deliver lectures to political science and law students. Before his political career, Deal served as a private practice attorney.
