MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga – A grand opening was held on Tuesday for a nursing home that will serve elderly and infirmed parolees from the state Department of Corrections.
The Bostick Nursing Center is on the grounds of the former state hospital. It is being operated by CorrectLife, and will also serve patients with mental illness and behavioral health issues.
CorrectLife purchased the parcel from the state, tore down a dilapidated building on the site and over a three-year period planned and built a 110,000-square-foot facility valued at more than $20 million.
Bostick will create at least 330 direct jobs at the facility. The 280-bed intermingled skilled nursing and intermediate care facility will serve special populations with limited access to skilled nursing and intermediate care services.
The Georgia Department of Community Health has vetted and validated the project through its certificate of need process.
“The opening of the Bostick Nursing Center exemplifies how partnerships with the private sector can aid Georgia’s ongoing criminal justice reforms, which lower the burden on taxpayers while getting better results,” said Gov. Nathan Deal. “This facility is the first of its kind in our state, but it meets a growing need for aged and infirmed inmates who have served their sentences but have nowhere else to go.
"Our correctional facilities aren’t intended to serve as geriatric care centers, and now, the ready and able healthcare workforce in Milledgeville can provide the appropriate services to former inmates who no longer pose a threat to society.”
