Off-duty officer attacked near Ponce City Market, police say

The off-duty officer from a jurisdiction outside Atlanta was allegedly assaulted just a quarter of a mile from Ponce City Market, police said.

ATLANTA — An off-duty officer from a jurisdiction outside Atlanta was attacked not far from Ponce City Market Friday night, police said.

Atlanta Police said the off-duty officer sustained a head injury when he was assaulted but is "alert, conscious and breathing."

The incident happened at 654 Boulevard NE, which is just a quarter of a mile from Ponce City Market, police said. The address where the incident allegedly happened is also just down the street from a Chick-fil-A, Popeyes, Wendy's and Dunkin' near Ponce de Leon Avenue NE.

APD also said a possible suspect has been detained. They did not specify which jurisdiction the officer was from.
