The Covington Police officer who was shot in the head back in September will be home for the holidays.
The Shepherd Center said Matt Cooper has graduated from its inpatient brain injury rehabilitation as of Wednesday.
"Through fist bumps, thumbs ups, hugs and kind words, he greeted and thanked his family and friends, as well as his colleagues from the Covington Police Department, who gave him and his family a police escort out of Shepherd Center and onto Peachtree Road," the Shepherd Center posted.
Cooper, a 34-year-old U.S. Army veteran and a father, was shot as he responded to a shoplifting call at a Walmart on Labor Day.
He was moved from Grady Hospital to the Shepherd Center in late September.
